 The Tale of Woe

Day Thirteen

Sophie's Lab
(Yuck Chemistry 101)

Looks like we will need to brush up on our Chemistry (Wrong)!

It is easy... No worries be happy. Just follow these steps and you will be a natural born Chemist.

Go to Sophie's Shack.   Click on the door of the shack to enter the lab.

Creation Potion #One!

1. Once you get to the lab, scroll to the bottom of the page. Sophie will have your task at hand.

2. Let's say Sophie needs you to make the following potion:

Composite #1: Quantity: 5 grams
Relevant property: Enchantment
Target value: +63 +/- 5

Know lets break this down....

QUANTITY : This is how many grams TOTAL you will need in the final composite.
RELEVANT PROPERTY: This is the property you need to focus on for the composite. C=Conjuring, D=Divination, E=Enchantment, P=Power
TARGET VALUE Most important number of the night. You're going to need to mess with your ingredients until they get to THIS NUMBER... plus or minus five points. So, in the case above, you need to reach 63 points, plus or minus 5 points, so you will need a value between 58 and 68 to make the potion work.

3. Now. Scroll back up and click on the  top left corner of the page, where it reads "
Open basic ingredients cabinet."

4. You will open the cabinet to find there are ingredients for you! Click on one. Any of them. It doesn't matter, just yet.

5. Then enter in how much you need. In this example, Sophie wants five grams, so enter 5 into the box and hit enter.

6. You now have an ingredient. It will tell you that you can do one of 4 things:
#1 Burn,          #2 Crush,         #3 Soak  or   #4 Desiccate.

7. The easiest way is to start with the first one. #1 "Burn".  So begin burning your item till you can not burn it no more. It will tell you ""This ingredient cannot burn any more." Take about 300 seconds  before you get the message, so sit back and relax... we still have a long way to go. By this time your property (Enchantment) should be around 15 +/-

8. Now begin the second #2 Crush, do the exact same thing as above.

9. Repeat with the #3 Soak.  If you're really close to the number that you need , you don't have to wait the full time this time before hitting stop. To be on the save side hit stop, check the value, and hit soak again.

10. If your values have gone up and are what you want after soaking? You will then need to do the #4 Desiccate Make sure you hit the stop button and check if you are close to the number...

11. When you FINALLY got that right value? Hit "Create new composite."

12. Now before throwing it into the pot, check to make sure it's got the right weight and the right value.

13. Throw it into the pot.

End results:

Miscellaneous Composition

Quantity: 5 grams
Enchantment:  +63

Discard

 14. Congratulations, you've just made a potion!

Sophie

That seems to have worked out. I'll have to try it on something... and Bruno's not around.
Meowclops

Mew?
Sophie

Excellent.

Sophie

Note to self: The smell of burning Meowclops hair is to be avoided at all costs.
Meowclops

Mew.

Creation Potion #Two!

Sophie

Okay, this time I'll try something a little more complex.

Composite #1:

Quantity: 16 grams
Relevant property: Divination
Target value: +41 +/- 5

Composite #2:

Quantity: 25 grams
Relevant property: Enchantment
Target value: +85 +/- 5

Composite 2 cannot contain more than 10 grams of any one basic ingredient.

1. Here we go again, we are basically doing the same thing as we did in the first step... only it will take us a lot longer.
2. First let's start with composite #1. Don't worry about composite #2 yet. In the example listed, you need 16 grams. Head into your ingredients cabinet and get you items. Grab 10 grams of one ingredient (since you can't grab more than 10 grams at a time). Any ingredient will do. Now head back to the cabinet again and grab 6 grams (or however many more you need) of that SAME INGREDIENT. Must be the same! so if you grabbed 10 grams of Sharpgrass before, grab 6 grams of Sharpgrass now making it a told of the 16 grams that She had asked for...

3. Now you have two parts of the same ingredient. You will need to play with both of them to get the desired value amount. Repeat steps 7-10 from above.

4. You need to make sure BOTH ingredients get to the right value. In other words BOTH ingredients must have a value of 41 +/- 5, s in the example below.

Sharpgrass

- Characteristics -

Quantity: 10 grams
Divination:  +41

Enchantment:  +21

Sharpgrass

- Characteristics -

Quantity: 6 grams
Divination:  +41

Enchantment:  +20

NOTE. WHEN MAKING THE FIRST COMPOSITE, IGNORE ANY NUMBERS YOU GET FOR THE OTHER VALUE.  YOU ONLY NEED TO WORRY ABOUT THE NUMBERS FOR THE VALUE YOU NEED. IN THIS EXAMPLE WE ONLY NEED TO WORRY ABOUT Divination; WE ARE GOING TO IGNORE THE VALUE OF ENCHANTMENT ENTIRELY.

End results for Composite #1

- Composites -

Miscellaneous Composition

Quantity: 16 grams
Divination:  +41
Enchantment:  +41

You successfully added an ingredient to this composite.

Discard

Now for the Second Composite!

WHEN WE MOVE ON TO COMPOSITE TO, WE ARE ONLY GOING TO WORRY ABOUT ENCHANTMENT AND IGNORE Divination ENTIRELY.

Composite #2:

Quantity: 25 grams
Relevant property: Enchantment
Target value: +85 +/- 5

Composite 2 cannot contain more than 10 grams of any one basic ingredient.

Again repeat all the steps for getting the proper value, but with three DIFFERENT ingredients this time-- they MUST all be different.

1. In this example, we need 25 grams. Head to the potions cabinet. Grab 10 grams of one ingredient, 10 grams of another, and 5 grams of one other. (all Different).

2. Repeat steps 7-10 of potion one.  Until you get three values whose AVERAGE equals the value you need.
(Sum of values of ingredients)/(number of ingredients) = average
You're going to need [(value 1) + (Value 2) + (value 3)] / 3

25 grams 83 + 83 + 80
10 x 830 10 x 830 5 x 400

830 + 830 + 400

= 2060 /25

82.4 (=)  Average

End results for Composites #1 & 2

Miscellaneous Composition

Quantity: 16 grams
Divination:  +41
Enchantment:  +41

Miscellaneous Composition

Quantity: 25 grams
Divination:  +89
Enchantment:  +82

Now you throw into cauldron!!!

Sophie

I think the ingredients are correct. Now let's make sure it works.
Meowclops

Mew?
Sophie

I'm glad you're back to normal. Time for dinner!

Sophie

That's definitely not right. Although if everyone in Neovia had an extra Bearog head... nah.
Meowclops

Mew!! GRRRRR!
Sophie

Stop fighting, you two, or I'll turn this shack right around!

Creation Potion #Three!

Sophie

Hmm... I think this one's gonna end up being a lot more complicated. Let's just see if I can remember how to make that one composite... I think it had Bloodfern Loam and Leafy Slorgblossom, but I can't remember which property it needed...

Composite #1:

Special: Spectral Essence
Quantity: 25 grams

Composite #2:

Quantity: 12 grams
Relevant property: Power
Target value: +82 +/- 3
Relevant property: Divination
Target value: +80 +/- 3

Composite 2 cannot contain more than 3 grams of any one basic ingredient.

1. Sophie has even more for us to do, this time asking that Composition #1 called
"Spectral Essence."

HOW TO GET SPECTRAL ESSENCE

Spectral essence (25g)
10g Bloodfern - Crush and Soak both to Max
10g Bloodfern - Crush and Soak both to max
5g Leafy Slorgblossom - Crush, Soak and desiccate to MAX

Spectral Essence

Quantity: 25 grams

Conjuring:  +246
Divination:  +49
Enchantment:  +13
Power:  +373
Combine everything together into one composite.
Miscellaneous composite should change to "Spectral Essence."

Don't throw it into the cauldron until you have composite #2!

2. Composite #2 may seem hard, but I found any easy way to do it...  Simple. The Crushed Jurpleberries is the only ingredient that changes the value to only ONE property effected at a time, depending on whether you burn, crush, dry or soak.

BURNING Jurpleberries will raise the Enchantment value.
CRUSHING Jurpleberries will raise the Conjuring value.
SOAKING Jurpleberries will raise the Divination value.
DESICCATING Jurpleberries will raise the Power value.

Quantity: 12 grams
Relevant property: Power
Target value: +82 +/- 3
Relevant property: Divination
Target value: +80 +/- 3

Bumroot: Burn
Leafy Slorgblossom: Crush
Bagguss Pulp: Burn Crush Desiccate
Bloodfern Loam: Soak Desiccate

Now you can throw it all in!!!

Sophie

Okay, third try. This one will work, I'm sure of it. Now, to test...
Meowclops

Mew?
Sophie

Ah, you again. Here, clopsey...

Sophie

Uh-oh.
Dr. Meowsloth

You fool! You'll pay for this treachery! I, Dr. Sloth, will bring your ruin down upon you!
Sophie

I really hope this wears off soon.

On to the next...

Creation Potion #Four!

by now we are all expert chemist... (yeah right!)

Sophie

Making potions this complicated from scratch is getting to be a nightmare!

Composite #1:

Special: Anti-Gravitic Goo
Quantity: 10 grams

Anti Gravitic Goo
Babaa Wool 4g
Crushed Jurpleberries 3g
Bagguss Pulp 3g

Burn and crush all to max.

Composite #2:

Special: Spectral Essence
Quantity: 23 grams
Relevant property: Conjuring
Target value: +275 +/- 1

Spectral Essence
20g Bloodfern Loam: soaked and crushed (both to max)
1g Bloodfern Loam: soaked, crushed, and desiccated (all to max)
2g Leafy Slorgblossom: soaked, crushed, desiccated (all to max)

Composite #3:

Quantity: 12 grams
Relevant property: Power
Target value: +70 +/- 2
Relevant property: Enchantment
Target value: +100 +/- 2

 70*4=280
now use the table to see what you can do to wool to bring up power and enchantment
soaking will raise those two properties
soak 3g wool so power and enchantment reach 280
100*4=400
400-280=120
burn 3g jurpleberries to 120
and then 3g of any two random ingredients

plus

Sophie

Please, please, let this one work properly.
Meowclops

Mew?
Sophie

You're just a glutton for punishment, aren't you?

Sophie

Okay, now that just doesn't even make sense.
Meowclops

Emw.

Creation Potion #Five!

(yes more....)

Sophie

If my estimation is correct, then the following ingredient list should be correct... but what goes into that composite? I think it was Sharpgrass, Bronze Sansam, and... either Madvine Root or Nova Essence.
Sophie

No, wait... it was Bumroot, Sharpgrass, and... one other ingredient. Was that it? Hrm... maybe it was just Madvine Root and Nova Essence...

Composite #1:

Special: Platinum Mist
Quantity: 10 grams

Platinum Mist:
1g Sharpgrass: Do nothing
1g Madvine Root: Do nothing
8g Bronze: Burn, Crush, Soak, Desiccate

Composite #2:

Special: Anti-Gravitic Goo
Quantity: 10 grams
Relevant property: Enchantment
Target value: -406 +/- 1
Relevant property: Power
Target value: +151 +/- 1

Anti-Gravity Goo (10g) - Potion Creation  5:
4g Babaa Wool - Crushed
2g Bagguss Pulp -  Burned, Crushed, Soaked, Desiccated
2g Crushed Jurpleberries - Burn, Crushed, Soaked
2g Crushed Jurpleberries - Crushed, Soaked

Composite #3:

Quantity: 5 grams
Relevant property: Power
Target value: +300 +/- 1
Relevant property: Divination
Target value: +300 +/- 1

Divination/Power
1g Wool: Crush, Desiccate
1g Madvine Root: Soak
1g Nova: Burn
1g Berries: Soak, Desiccate
1g any random ingredient not used: Do nothing

Sophie

If this one's not safe, then I don't know what I'll do...
Meowclops

Mew.
Sophie

Thanks for all your support, little guy. Down the hatch...

Other Special Potions:

Ice Plasma:
1g Bumroot: Burn, Crush
1g Sharpgrass: Burn, Crush
1g Nova: Burn, Crush
7g Sharpgrass: Do nothing

Note:  Burning the three ingredients also works no Crushing is  required.

Psionic Singularity:

2g Madvine Root: Desiccate for 2 seconds
8g Nova: Do nothing

 The Tale of Woe

Day Ten

Read Chapter Seven and head out to Sophie's shack. You'll need to make a potion!

Your ingredients are:

  • Blumroot

  • Leafy Slorgblossom

  • Crushed Jurpleberries

  • Salt (AVAILALBLE ONLY AFTER YOU COMPLETE POTION 1)

  • Bronze Sansam (AVAILIBLE ONLY AFTER YOU COMPLETE POTION 2)

Sophie

Okay, I've got the recipe for how to make this potion to summon the Spirit of Slumber, but it's a little vague on the specifics...
Bruno

Specifics? Like what, exactly?
Sophie

Um, like precisely how much of each ingredient to use. Or, uh, which ingredients. But it gives me some good ideas!
Bruno

Oh, this will go well.

The goal here is to get your potion to a certain color. Follow the color sequence below. Moving down the list is where you want to go.

NOTE: Everyone's potion mixing is DIFFERENT!

Started Red
1. Green
2. Blue
3. Glowing Purple

Sophie

Yes! I think we've got it. Bruno, go ahead and give this a try.
Bruno

Here goes...

Bruno drinks potion at this time.

Sophie

That's... an interesting effect.
Bruno

Oh, you think this is funny, do you?
Gilly

My goodness!
Sophie

Well, that clearly didn't work. I'll have to try something else. Maybe a different base potion... yes... Now, these ingredients will have a different effect than before, but it should work this time!

4. Grey
5. Pink
6. Rainbow

Sophie

Okay, this time for sure. Drink it down, Bruno!
Bruno

I hope this one at least tastes better than last time.

Bruno

Yecch! Too much salt. Or possibly not enough.

Sophie

Aww, I always wanted a little brother.
Bruno

I live for the sake of your amusement, sister.
Gilly

He's not going to stay that small, is he?
Sophie

No, no, almost... probably... not.
Bruno

Brilliant.
Sophie

Perhaps... yes! I've got it. I'll have to use a different potion base again, but this one's sure to work... if we put in the right ingredients... and it doesn't explode.
Bruno

Explode?!

7. Green/Yellow Swirl
8. Sparkling Purple
9. Red/White Swirl

Sophie

I'm sure this one will work! Let's see what happens.
Bruno

Okay... but I had better not explode...

 The Tale of Woe

Day Nine

Go to the Caretaker's Vault. Sophie will tell you to enter the graveyard. Do this by clicking the button that says "Visit the graveyards".

Sophie

What are we doing here? We need to go to a graveyard and find a name to cross off.
Gilly

Oh yeah.
Click on "Visit the graveyards"

Sophie

Well, now that the Caretaker's all upset that we dug up half the Haunted Woods looking for the Spirit of Slumber's bones, we're going to have to do this name-elimination business a little more, uh, quietly.
Gilly

That Caretaker really is scary when he's angry!
Sophie

I kind of, um, stole his graveyard reference books after we found the Spirit's bones. So he's even more angry now.
Bruno

A wise choice.
Sophie

Look, here's the first thirty graveyards we should check. Once we've gone through every grave, I'll take it off the list and put on some new ones. Let's get going!

Once there, choose a grave from the list. At this point it might be full so don't bother entering any graveyards yet.  Instead, refresh at the graveyard list page until a new yard pops up on the bottom of the list.

Enter the new graveyard and QUICKLY search for a tombstone without a red dot in the upper right. You best bet would be to go to the farthest area in the graveyard to search. For info on how to move about the yard, see the previous step. Once you find an unmarked grave, stand adjacent to it and click it on the right top corner.

TAKEN! NO Good!

Once you have been to an unmarked grave, note the name and month that the person has died in. Return to the vault and click the Bookshelves until the correct month appears.

The shelves shuffle on the hour!!! (Counter clock wise)

NOTE: If the caretaker shows, up just click "return to graveyard" and re-enter until he leaves

YOU MUST go fast because if you don't someone else will take it!!!!

Gilly

We did it! We eliminated every name except one.
Sophie

Well? What name is it?
Gilly

"Jubart Igig." Doesn't sound like most of the other names we found. Maybe it's an anagram of something... Nah.
